If You Want Eggs, Go Buy Your Own Dozen

Every morning, my daughter comes into our bedroom and asks what's for breakfast. Every day I suggest something in which she replies,”I'm having a bagel.” I am not a morning person so the idea of her preparing herself a bagel usually sets just fine with me. I can lie in bed a few minutes more. This morning I beat her to the punch. I was up and at it fixing French toast faster than you can shake a stick because my blood was boiling.
My husband turns on the television for me when he rises. I watch the morning news as a way to wake up fully. Two minutes into the morning news, I am outraged. For several days, there are men discussing what should occur inside my uterus. Sixty years after “the pill” provided women freedom about their reproduction and old white men not only want to make an issue at of it, they want to control the discussion.
It appears that men inside the beltway of Washington, D.C. did not get the memo. Ninety-eight percent of women favor birth control being provided for in their health care plans. Guess what, that includes Catholic women. No, these men, are too busy listening to the hierarchy of the Catholic church. A hierarchy run by men for men for centuries.
And men of the media are just as out of touch. They were covering this false outcry without understanding the overwhelming number of women who want contraceptives as part of their health care coverage. Syndicated columnists Mark Shields and David Brooks were on the PBS News Hour on Friday.  Shields describes the decision to fully cover contraceptives as “cataclysmic” for the Obama administration. Brooks stated it was the “most under-reported story in months.” Shields reiterated his outlandish remarks on Lawrence O'Donnell's MSNBC show, The Last Word.
All the domestic problems in this country and congressmen, the media and presidential candidates are concerned about the travesty of providing contraceptives for women. Presidential wannabes find you own platforms, but leave me out of it. How about JOB CREATION?
Do you think any women discussed the Viagra inclusion in heath care plans when the drug was created? Remember the first commercials with Bob Dole? Can you imagine Hillary Clinton, while running for president, questioning whether men's sexual enhancement drugs should be covered under health care plans?
The worse commercials on television today are those “when the time is right, be ready” commercials of Levitra. I absolutely detest them. And they are on ALL THE TIME. But we women tolerate them because they help old men feel macho again.
I want to believe we are on the cusp of a tipping point for women And these old white guys are desperately attempting to maintain control. It's time for women to become enraged and move these old geezers aside.
If this story doesn't subside soon, I might have to expand my breakfast repertoire. Tomorrow, breakfast tacos.
